چکیده

A method using electropulsing to separate inclusions from molten steel is developed, based on the differences in electrical properties between the inclusions and liquid metal. The inclusions have different electrical resistivity from that of the liquid steel and hence being expelled to the surface of the metal by electropulsing. In comparison with the as-solidified untreated steel, the size of the inclusion is significantly larger at the surface of the molten steel due to the enhanced agglomeration. Moreover, the technique is efficient in eliminating particles smaller than 20 μm.

Effect of Adding Cerium on Microstructure and Morphology of Ce-Based Inclusions Formed in Low-Carbon Steel

Intra-granular Acicular Ferrite (IAF), as one of the most well-known desirable microstructure of ferrite with a chaotic crystallographic orientation, can not only refine the microstructure and retard the propagation of cleavage crack but also provide excellent combination of strength and toughness in steel. The effect of adding cerium on microstructure and controlling proper cerium-based inclus...

Effect of Lanthanum on Microstructures and Properties of ASTM A216 Steel

In order to satisfy the rudder horn casting standards of the International Association of Classification Societies, the properties of ASTM A216 steel should be improved. Therefore, in this article the rudder horn casting and accompanying specimens were cast moulded by arc furnace smelting, external refining, and modification treatment of the molten steel by lanthanum. The samples were first und...

State of the Art in the Control of Inclusions during Steel Ingot Casting

This article extensively reviews published research on inclusions in ingot steel and defects on ingot products, methods to measure and detect inclusions in steel, the causes of exogenous inclusions, and the transport and entrapment of inclusions during fluid flow, segregation, and solidification of steel cast in ingot molds. Exogenous inclusions in ingots originate mainly from reoxidation of th...

Electropulsing-induced steels strengthening at high temperature

Electropulsing usually reduces the stability of metastable phases in materials. This work reports the opposite effect, where electropulsing drives the stable -phase at high temperature to be decomposed. This enables both γ-phase and σ-phase in duplex stainless steel to survive and hence to strengthen the steel at high temperature. The hardness of the quenched sample after electropulsing is 49....
